Peddi Set for Netflix Premiere on July 9: All You Need to Know

After creating a massive stir at the box office and shattering records worldwide, the sports-action drama Peddi is officially ready for its digital debut. Netflix announced that the film, starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, will begin streaming on the platform starting July 9, 2026.

The digital rights for the highly anticipated project were acquired by Netflix, which confirmed the release date across its social media channels. Upon its premiere, the film will be available to stream in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. Furthermore, the production house has confirmed that a Hindi-language version is scheduled to arrive on the platform shortly after the initial launch.

Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi first graced the big screens on June 4, 2026. The film centers on a spirited villager in 1980s rural Andhra Pradesh who unites his community through sports to stand against powerful rivals.

The movie has been a financial juggernaut, reportedly crossing the ₹400 crore mark globally within just 14 days of its theatrical release. Alongside leads Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, the film features an ensemble cast including Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, and Divyenndu Sharma. The project was produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under his banner, Vriddhi Cinemas, in collaboration with Mythri Movie Makers.

Despite its overwhelming commercial success, Peddi faced significant public scrutiny during its theatrical run. A storm of backlash emerged regarding the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character, with many viewers and critics expressing discomfort over specific camera angles and framing choices that they argued amounted to the objectification of the lead actress.

The criticism sparked a widespread national debate regarding the hyper-sexualization of female leads in mainstream Indian cinema. In response to the mounting pressure, director Buchi Babu Sana issued a public apology and committed to making necessary edits to the film. Industry observers are now keen to see if these revisions will be reflected in the final version premiering on Netflix this week.

As the countdown to the OTT release begins, fans are eager to revisit or catch up on the high-octane drama that dominated headlines throughout June. With its massive star power and compelling narrative, Peddi is expected to maintain its momentum as it shifts from the cinema halls to home screens across the nation.
