Bollywood icon Sunny Deol has never been one to let initial career setbacks define his family’s legacy. True to his protective and supportive reputation as a father, the actor is reportedly gearing up to give his younger son, Rajveer Deol, a fresh and powerful launch pad in the action genre by remaking one of the most defining films of his own career: the 1985 socio-political drama, Arjun.
Rajveer Deol made his Bollywood debut in 2023 with the coming-of-age romantic drama Dono, directed by Avnish S. Barjatya under Rajshri Productions. While the film received appreciation for its heartfelt storytelling, it struggled to make a significant impact at the box office. Despite earning praise for his earnest performance, Rajveer largely stepped away from the limelight following the release.
Determined to steer his son toward roles that leverage a more intense screen presence, Sunny Deol is reportedly developing an updated, contemporary version of Arjun tailored specifically for Rajveer. Industry insiders note that shifting from a soft romantic debut to a gritty action-drama is seen as an ideal strategic pivot to reintroduce the young actor to audiences.
Directed by Rahul Rawail, the original 1985 film Arjun featured Sunny Deol as an unemployed, rebellious youth drawn into the nexus of political corruption and organized crime in Mumbai. Long before blockbusters like Gadar and Damini cemented his status as an all-time action superstar, Arjun established him as a compelling force of righteous anger and emotional conviction.
Remaking a project of this scale means much more than simply recycling a familiar title; it requires capturing the same raw intensity that resonated with the working-class audiences of the 1980s.
Before the project can officially take off, however, key logistical hurdles must be cleared. The remake rights for Arjun—previously held by producers Karim Morani and Sunil Soorma—are reportedly with Shah Rukh Khan’s production banner.
Reports indicate that discussions are currently underway to acquire the rights from Khan. Given the warm and cordial relationship shared between Sunny Deol and Shah Rukh Khan, industry observers are optimistic that the transition of rights will proceed smoothly.
This news comes at an incredible career high for Sunny Deol. Riding on the historic, record-breaking success of Gadar 2, the strong performance of Border 2, and his recent courtroom thriller Ikka on Netflix, the veteran star is experiencing one of the most commercially dominant phases of his career.
In addition to supporting his son’s upcoming projects, Sunny Deol has a massive slate of films lined up. He is starring in Rajkumar Santoshi’s period drama Batwara 1947 (slated for release on August 14, 2026) and is stepping into the mythological realm as Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated pan-India epic Ramayana: Part 1, arriving in November 2026.
As discussions surrounding the Arjun remake continue behind closed doors, fans eagerly await an official announcement regarding Rajveer’s return to the big screen under his father’s seasoned guidance.
