Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is accelerating its venture into uncharted cinematic territory, aggressively expanding its portfolio into the horror, mythic, and fantasy genres. Following a slate of inventive announcements—including the fantasy comedy Naagzilla and the Malayalam period folk thriller Odiyan: The Age of Illusion—the production house has officially locked down its next big-screen spectacle.
According to Bollywood Hungama, powerhouse actor Rajkummar Rao and breakout star Pratibha Ranta (hailed for her stellar turn in Laapataa Ladies) have been signed to headline Vishkanya. Billed as a high-concept feature blending expansive magical fantasy worlds with deep existential terror and dark mythic elements, the film aims to deliver a visual and narrative landscape previously unseen in mainstream Hindi cinema.
Behind the Lens: Directorial Vision and Production Scale
Vishkanya will be helmed by director Sonal Joshi, who previously made her feature directorial debut with the Shilpa Shetty-starrer comedy-drama Sukhee (2023). Shifting gears sharply from domestic drama to dark fantasy, Joshi is set to explore a haunting, folklore-driven universe.
While core plot details remain heavily guarded under wraps, studio insiders hint that Vishkanya will lean heavily on state-of-the-art visual effects, atmospheric dread, and a robust mythological subtext, keeping in line with the broader strategy of Dharma Productions to deliver diverse theatrical spectacles.

- Rajkummar Rao: Continuing his golden run at the box office following major successes like Stree 2 and Srikanth, Rao has an eclectic lineup. He stars in the upcoming legal drama Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikam Story (slated for October 2026) and is locked in to portray legendary cricketer Sourav Ganguly in the upcoming sports biopic Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story, scheduled for a May 2027 theatrical release.
