Balaji Motion Pictures has successfully resolved a brewing copyright controversy surrounding the promotional campaign for the upcoming fantasy-folkloric drama The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest.
The production banner’s legal and executive team acted promptly to acquire official sync rights after independent musician Sargam Vaish publicly called out the makers for utilizing his unreleased master recording of the devotional hymn Aigiri Nandini without prior consent.
How the Controversy Unfolded Online
The issue surfaced when musician Sargam Vaish took to Instagram, sharing a detailed video breakdown pointing out that roughly 25 seconds of his rendition of Aigiri Nandini—specifically between the 1:08 and 1:30 timestamps—had been directly lifted and featured in the official trailer of the Sidharth Malhotra-starrer.
Vaish claimed that he held the original master rights to the recording, having meticulously built the production, arrangement, and vocals over a multi-year creative window. He further stressed that because he had already signed the track over to a major music label for an upcoming project, unauthorized usage in a high-profile movie trailer threatened to breach his existing corporate contracts. The post drew massive traction across social media, with independent artists rallying behind Vaish and questioning how the unreleased audio file made its way into the hands of external editors.
Swift Action and Amicable Resolution
Rather than letting the dispute escalate into prolonged litigation, the core production team moved with admirable speed. According to a report by Mid Day, executives and legal representatives from Ektaa R. Kapoor’s production house reached out and met with Vaish.
Reflecting on the meeting, Vaish expressed gratitude for the mature handling of the situation, noting that the studio representatives were completely transparent, cooperative, and apologetic regarding the mix-up.
“Balaji’s executives and lawyers have been cooperative. We met them today; they were kind and apologetic, even though they didn’t cause [the leak]. They are taking the sync rights for the track. I am grateful for the fact that we were able to resolve it so smoothly,” Vaish shared.
While the sync rights are now officially secured and the copyright hurdle cleared, Vaish noted that both parties are still investigating how the confidential master recording leaked out of initial closed circles and reached The Vvaan editorial team.
