The “Mega Power Star” Ram Charan is all set to dominate the 2026 summer box office, but fans will have to wait just a few weeks longer than expected. The makers of the rustic sports drama Peddi officially announced on Wednesday that the film’s release has shifted from its original date of March 27 to April 30, 2026.
This strategic postponement ensures that one of the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema gets the “clean window” it deserves. By moving to the end of April, Peddi now targets the lucrative May Day weekend, positioning itself as the definitive summer blockbuster for audiences across the globe.
The decision to move the release date was not made in isolation. The latter half of March 2026 is currently looking like a cinematic battlefield. With Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh locked for March 26 and the continued dominance of high-octane thrillers like Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic earlier in the month, the Peddi team chose wisdom over a cluttered clash.
Beyond the competition, the production is currently in its final, most crucial leg of filming. Directing a period sports drama set in the 1980s requires meticulous attention to detail. The producers at Vriddhi Cinemas and Mythri Movie Makers reportedly decided to utilize the extra time to polish the high-intensity cricket sequences and the intricate VFX that recreate the bygone era of coastal Andhra.
The news of the postponement comes at a joyous time for the lead star. On January 31, 2026, Ram Charan and his wife, Upasana Kamineni Konidela, welcomed twins—a boy and a girl. While the actor has already resumed his “beast mode” training to wrap up the final schedule, the slight delay in the release allows him to balance his massive professional commitments with this new chapter in his personal life.
Fans have dubbed this period as “Double Bhaukaal,” celebrating both the birth of the “Mega Twins” and the savage new look Charan sports in the latest Peddi posters.
Under the visionary direction of Buchi Babu Sana (of Uppena fame), Peddi has assembled a cast that is nothing short of a “Pan-India Dream Team.” The film marks several firsts and highly anticipated reunions:
- Ram Charan: Plays the titular role of a rugged, determined athlete. His transformation—featuring a nose ring, long unkempt hair, and a thick beard—has already gone viral.
- Janhvi Kapoor: In her second major Telugu outing, Janhvi plays Achiyamma, a spunky and vibrant village girl who serves as the emotional anchor of the story.
- Trisha Krishnan: Bringing her unmatched grace and experience, Trisha’s role is reportedly a pivotal link in the film’s non-linear narrative.
- Vijay Sethupathi: Reunited with Buchi Babu Sana, the “Makkal Selvan” is rumored to play a formidable antagonist, promising a face-off with Charan that will be the highlight of the film.
Adding to the film’s massive hype is the musical genius of A.R. Rahman. The film’s first single, Chikiri Chikiri, has already shattered digital records, surpassing 200 million views within weeks of its launch. The soundtrack is expected to be a blend of earthy, folk-inspired melodies and high-tempo stadium anthems that complement the cricket-centric storyline.
Cinematographer Rathnavelu is using specialized anamorphic lenses to capture the dusty, raw aesthetics of 1980s Vizianagaram, ensuring that Peddi isn’t just a movie, but a visual time machine.
With the new date set for April 30, the promotional campaign is expected to enter its second phase. Sources close to the production suggest that a “Mega Teaser” featuring the first look at Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan is currently being edited for a late February reveal.
As the industry prepares for a summer of blockbusters, Peddi stands out as a film that balances raw emotion with “mass” appeal. The delay might have tested the patience of the “Mega Fans,” but if the initial glimpses are anything to go by, the wait will be well worth it.
