Dragon Fact Check: Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt NOT Joining Jr NTR’s Prashanth Neel Film

As anticipation builds for one of the most ambitious collaborations in Indian cinema, a wave of digital speculation regarding the casting of Dragon has been officially put to rest. Contrary to widespread early media rumours claiming that Bollywood stars Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt had boarded the project for crucial roles, sources close to the production have confirmed that neither actor has been signed, nor are they a part of the film.

Helmed by blockbuster director Prashanth Neel, Dragon features an extensive principal ensemble cast. The finalized lineup is led by Jr. NTR as Luger, alongside Rukmini Vasanth, veteran actor Anil Kapoor, Biju Menon, Khushbu Sundar, and Ashutosh Rana.

While major narrative details continue to be guarded closely by the makers, early insights and the explosive first teaser reveal a gritty, period-grounded canvas:

  • The Setting: Set in a turbulent era immediately following British rule, Dragon dives deep into the dark, ruthless underworld of the global and regional opium trade.
  • The Power Struggle: The film tracks a violent, high-stakes turf war and power struggle unfolding between the Afghan Trading Company and a formidable rival syndicate known as the Golden Trading Company.
  • The Protagonist: Jr. NTR reportedly essays the role of Luger, a relentless, fierce operative caught at the center of this blood-soaked trade empire.

Backed by major production banners, Dragon is being mounted on a pan-India scale matching the cinematic grandeur synonymous with director Prashanth Neel.

  • Producers & Banners: Jointly produced by Mythri Movie Makers and NTR Arts, involving producers Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, Naveen Yerneni, Y. Ravi Shankar, and Kosaraju Harikrishna.
  • Presenters: Presented nationally by Gulshan Kumar, Bhushan Kumar, and T-Series Films.
  • Music & Technical Crew: The film’s striking, atmospheric musical score is composed by Ravi Basrur, with cinematography handled by Bhuvan Gowda.
  • Theatrical Release: The film is locked for a grand worldwide theatrical release on June 11, 2027.

Production on Dragon hit an unexpected pause following an unfortunate accident on set. While filming an intense, heavy action sequence, leading man Jr. NTR sustained a severe shoulder injury.

Following initial medical evaluations, the actor underwent a successful arthroscopic shoulder surgery at a private hospital in Hyderabad. Expressing gratitude to his fans for their overwhelming support post-surgery, the actor entered a structured medical rehabilitation program. With his recovery progressing smoothly, the core unit is scheduled to resume major action blocks shortly as they march toward the mid-2027 release window.
