Salman Khan Hosts Exclusive Screening of ‘Maatrubhumi’ for Bollywood’s A-List Directors

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan recently hosted a private and highly exclusive screening of the rough first cut of his upcoming project, Maatrubhumi. The film, which has been the subject of intense anticipation and numerous production cycles, was showcased to some of the most influential figures in the Indian film industry.

The intimate gathering at a Mumbai “food square” included legendary directors Subhash Ghai, Kabir Khan, Sooraj Barjatya, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Rumy Jafry, Riteish Deshmukh, and David Dhawan. The lead stars of the film, Salman Khan and Chitrangada Singh, were present alongside director Apoorva Lakhia to present the footage to their peers.

The screening offered a rare glimpse into the thematic core of the film, which explores the complex emotions of soldiers from India and China, focusing on their dedication to their respective nations and families. Moving beyond a standard war drama, the film centers on a powerful theme of mutual peace and respect.

Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai took to social media to express his admiration for the project, stating, “It was so beautiful to see my favourite directors together… to watch a rough cut of Apoorva Lakhia’s film Maatrubhumi.” He further added, “Thank you, dear Salman, for inviting us; we wish you grand success for such a positive film. With all our blessings”.

The path to the screen for Maatrubhumi has been anything but conventional. Previously titled Battle of Galwan, the film has undergone numerous creative changes and significant reshoots over the past few months. These production adjustments led to several delays, keeping fans in suspense regarding the final version of the project.

However, with the rough cut now being presented to industry veterans, it appears that the production is finally nearing completion. The film is currently expected to hit theaters around the Independence Day weekend in August 2026, though the makers have yet to announce a formal final release date.

Maatrubhumi is directed by Apoorva Lakhia, a filmmaker known for his ability to handle intense, high-stakes narratives. The film is produced by Salma Khan under the prestigious Salman Khan Films (SKF) banner, which has been instrumental in backing projects that often balance commercial appeal with socially relevant themes.

Stay tuned for the official release date announcement as the team at SKF puts the finishing touches on this highly anticipated Independence Day 2026 release!
