FWICE Issues Non-Cooperation Directive Against Ranveer Singh Over ‘Don 3’ Fallout

The Indian film industry is reeling from an unprecedented escalation in the high-profile dispute between Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh and producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani (Excel Entertainment). On Monday, May 25, 2026, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) officially announced a “non-cooperation directive” against the actor, effectively barring him from working with any of its affiliated members until his dispute regarding his sudden exit from the highly anticipated Don 3 is resolved.

The decision follows a formal complaint filed by Excel Entertainment, which alleges that Singh’s last-minute withdrawal from the project caused significant logistical chaos and financial ruin.

According to officials at the FWICE press conference—led by Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit, President Birendra Nath Tiwari, and General Secretary Ashok Dubey—the dispute centers on Singh’s alleged breach of a three-film contract.

Producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani claim that Singh abruptly walked out of Don 3 just three weeks before the shooting schedule was set to begin. The production house alleges that extensive pre-production work, including location recces, script development, and marketing shoots, had already been completed with the actor’s participation. Consequently, the producers have sought damages amounting to ₹45 crore to cover the financial losses incurred during this period.

The FWICE, which functions as the primary umbrella body for over 400,000 film technicians, artists, and workers across 32 craft unions, took a firm stance on the matter. Ashoke Pandit stated that the federation reached out to Ranveer Singh on three separate occasions, sending notices every 10 to 15 days to invite him for a mediation meeting.

“We sent multiple reminders,” Pandit explained during the press conference. “However, the actor’s team only responded after the federation announced this press conference, arguing that the FWICE was not the ‘appropriate forum’ to resolve contractual matters.”

The federation viewed this response as a dismissive attitude toward industry stakeholders. FWICE President Birendra Nath Tiwari emphasized, “We’ve decided to send a message to the industry that a superstar is not bigger than the law. Our members—cameramen, spot boys, lightmen, and technicians—have suffered due to this sudden exit, and we must protect their interests.”

The directive is immediate and comprehensive. It mandates that no member affiliated with the FWICE—spanning across films, advertisements, and web projects—may work with Ranveer Singh until further notice. This effectively cripples the actor’s ability to conduct production activities within the country, as it restricts access to essential technical crew and logistical infrastructure.

The federation has also appealed to other producer bodies to stand in solidarity, signalling that the ban could remain in effect until Singh agrees to a formal discussion or reaches an amicable settlement with Excel Entertainment.

In the wake of the announcement, Ranveer Singh’s team has chosen to maintain a measured and disciplined silence regarding the specifics of the fallout. In an official statement, a spokesperson for the actor reiterated his respect for the film fraternity:

“Throughout the recent developments surrounding Don 3, he has consciously chosen to maintain silence, believing that professional discussions and personal equations are best handled with dignity, maturity, and mutual respect. While several narratives and speculations have surfaced, Ranveer has never considered it necessary to respond publicly or contribute to conjecture.”

The spokesperson further emphasized that the actor continues to hold goodwill for the Don franchise and remains focused on his upcoming professional commitments, choosing “restraint and grace” over public debate.

While the directive remains in force, FWICE representatives have noted that the body remains open to meeting with Singh to hear his side of the story and facilitate a resolution. The industry now waits to see if mediation will occur, or if the dispute will escalate into a long-drawn-out legal battle.

For now, the Don 3 controversy serves as a stark reminder of the fragile nature of large-scale film productions and the significant role that trade unions play in balancing the power dynamics between talent and producers.
