Popular Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has run into a severe financial crisis. In what marks a major escalation of his long-running legal and monetary troubles, the Central Bank of India has officially issued recovery and auction notices for multiple properties owned by the actor.
According to reports by NDTV, the central banking institution has scheduled an online auction for September 9, targeting assets in Uttar Pradesh to recover an outstanding loan amount exceeding Rs 16.61 crores.
The Central Bank of India’s Mumbai branch initiated the recovery measures after years of pending repayments. The core details surrounding the properties and dues include:
- Outstanding Dues: The actor reportedly owes the bank ₹16,61,64,000, which encompasses the principal amount alongside accumulated interest.
- Properties Under the Hammer: Two primary properties located in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh—comprising an ancestral residential house, a city property, and agricultural farmland—have been officially marked for auction.
- Valuation: The combined estimated market value of these Shahjahanpur assets stands at approximately ₹3.19 crores.
- Guarantor Assets: Financial records indicate that properties belonging to Rajpal Yadav’s wife, Radha Yadav, and his mother, Godavari Yadav, were pledged as collateral guarantees when the loan was initially secured.
The loan in question was originally borrowed to finance Yadav’s 2012 directorial debut feature film, Aata Pata Lapata. Following a failure to meet repayment terms over the years, the bank took legal possession of the mortgaged property. Alongside the actions in Shahjahanpur, parallel processes for auctioning select properties belonging to the actor in Mumbai are also reportedly underway. The actor has not yet issued a formal public statement regarding the impending auction notices.
This property auction announcement compounds an already difficult period for the veteran comedian, who recently faced a major legal blow regarding a separate, prolonged dispute.
The Delhi High Court upheld the conviction of Rajpal Yadav across multiple cheque bounce cases filed by M/s Murli Projects Private Limited. Key aspects of the ruling include:
- Prison Sentence: The court sentenced Yadav to three months of simple imprisonment in each of the seven individual cases, with all sentences directed to run concurrently.
- Financial Penalties: The bench ordered the actor to pay substantial compensation fines running into crores per case. His wife, Radha Yadav, has also been directed to make specific settlement payments in connection to the legal proceedings.
- Judicial Observations: Declining to grant the actor the benefit of probation, the court criticized his prolonged conduct and repeated failure to honour settlement commitments made throughout the litigation timeline.
As legal pressures mount on multiple fronts, the coming weeks remain critical for the actor as he navigates these high-stakes financial and judicial challenges.
