The world of martial arts cinema is celebrating a massive crossover as Indian action superstar Vidyut Jammwal confirms his highly anticipated Hollywood debut. The actor, known globally for his expertise in Kalaripayattu, has officially unveiled his first look as the fan-favourite character Dhalsim in Legendary Entertainment’s live-action adaptation of the iconic Capcom video game, Street Fighter. The poster instantly went viral, showcasing Jammwal’s fierce commitment to the character’s traditional monk-inspired look.
Jammwal shared the striking first-look poster across his social media platforms, receiving widespread acclaim for his ripped physique, bald look, and the character’s signature red markings and metal cuffs. His involvement solidifies the film’s promise of delivering authentic and high-energy martial arts sequences. The film, directed by Kitao Sakurai, is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16, 2026.
Vidyut Jammwal joins one of the most eclectic and star-studded ensembles assembled for a video game adaptation. The film is built around the premise of the World Warrior Tournament, bringing together fighters from across the globe, each played by a familiar face from the worlds of cinema, music, and professional wrestling.
The confirmed core cast of fighters includes Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, WWE Star Roman Reigns as Akuma, WWE Star Cody Rhodes as Guile.
The villainous mastermind, M. Bison, is set to be played by the prolific character actor David Dastmalchian, promising a compelling clash against the roster of heroes. The diversity in the casting reflects the global nature of the Street Fighter franchise, assuring fans that the live-action adaptation will honour the varied backgrounds of its characters.
Dhalsim, originally introduced in the 1991 game Street Fighter II, is known for his signature yoga-based fighting style, including the ability to stretch his limbs and breathe fire. The character’s inclusion, with a globally recognized martial artist like Jammwal playing the role, highlights the film’s dedication to authentic combat choreography—a critical expectation for a fighting game adaptation.
Jammwal’s expertise in Kalaripayattu, the ancient Indian martial art, makes him a uniquely qualified choice for the role of the Indian yogi fighter. His dedication to fitness and stunt work, where he performs his own combat sequences, is expected to bring an unprecedented level of realism and fluidity to Dhalsim’s stretchy and acrobatic fighting style.
In a recent interview, Vidyut Jammwal expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that Dhalsim represents a powerful, peaceful, and disciplined warrior—attributes he has long championed in his own career. “In the company of warriors, I find my tribe,” he captioned his post, underscoring his excitement about making his Hollywood entry alongside such powerful international names.
The film is being helmed by director Kitao Sakurai, best known for his work on the hit comedy film Bad Trip and episodes of The Eric Andre Show. Sakurai’s involvement, coupled with the production backing of Legendary Entertainment and distribution by Paramount Pictures, suggests a high-budget film that aims to blend the campy fun of the video game with serious, character-driven action.
The official synopsis confirms the plot centres on estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters, who are reluctantly drawn back into the arena when Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament—a deadly battleground hiding a sinister global conspiracy. With the production wrapped up and the first looks now public, the focus shifts to post-production as the film gears up for its major 2026 release, promising to be a defining moment for both the franchise and Vidyut Jammwal’s career.
