Salman Khan Films (SKF) has officially addressed and dismissed the recent flurry of speculative reports claiming that the production banner’s upcoming war drama, Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, has encountered roadblocks with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). In a definitive statement released this Saturday, the production house categorized these claims as entirely “false and baseless”.
Over the past few days, several media outlets reported that the film, which explores the events of the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, had been put on hold by the censor board, leading to widespread speculation about the movie missing its projected August release. Addressing this narrative head-on, the makers clarified that the film has not even been submitted to the CBFC for certification yet.
“Any claims suggesting that Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace has encountered issues with the CBFC or that its certification has been put on hold are false. The film has not yet been submitted to the CBFC for certification. Therefore, such reports are entirely baseless,” the banner stated via an official post on Instagram.
The film, directed by Apoorva Lakhia and starring Salman Khan as Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, has been a subject of intense media interest since its inception. Originally announced under the title Battle of Galwan, the production team later opted for a rechristening, choosing the more evocative Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace.
Director Apoorva Lakhia previously explained that the change reflected a deeper shift in the film’s thematic core, moving beyond a singular depiction of conflict to focus on themes of humanity, sacrifice, and empathy. Despite this, the film has faced a challenging journey, including delays following its initial planned release date of April 17 and navigating sensitive geopolitical narratives.
Salman Khan Films has expressed concern over the circulation of unverified information and has urged both the media and the public to exercise restraint. The production house emphasized that it remains the sole source of truth regarding the film’s production status and release timeline.
“Salman Khan Films also urged media organisations and individuals not to circulate unverified information. Any official updates regarding the film will be shared by Salman Khan Films through its official channels only,” the statement concluded.
As of now, the makers are yet to announce a final release date for the project, which also features Chitrangada Singh in a lead role. Fans and industry observers are advised to rely exclusively on updates provided by the official SKF platforms as the film nears its eventual arrival in cinemas.
