The curtains have officially closed on one of the most talked-about celebrity marriages of recent years. The Bandra Family Court in Mumbai granted a decree of divorce to actor Hansika Motwani and her businessman husband Sohael Khaturiya on March 11, 2026. The dissolution of their marriage comes after three years of matrimony and months of intense public speculation regarding their relationship status.
According to legal filings, the couple sought a separation through mutual consent, citing an irretrievable breakdown of their bond. In a move that highlights a desire for a dignified and peaceful closure, Hansika Motwani reportedly forwent all claims to alimony, maintenance, and streedhan.
The legal proceedings reached their conclusion on Wednesday, with both parties appearing before the court to finalize the split. Hansika’s legal representative, Advocate Adnan Shaikh, confirmed that the actor made a conscious choice to waive her financial rights to ensure the process remained amicable.
“Our client, Hansika Motwani, has been granted a decree of divorce by the Hon’ble Family Court Bandra,” Shaikh stated in an official release. “The divorce was granted by mutual consent. It is pertinent to clarify that our client has made no claims whatsoever for alimony or maintenance, as her sole intention was to bring a dignified closure to the marriage.”
This decision by the Desamuduru star to forgo financial settlement has garnered significant attention, as it underscores a preference for personal peace over protracted legal battles.
While the couple’s 2022 wedding was the stuff of reality TV dreams, the reality behind closed doors told a different story. In the petition submitted to the court, the legal teams detailed the fundamental disparities that led to the friction.
Shaikh informed the court that although the couple shared a home for a brief period, they soon realized that they harboured significant differences in their temperaments, opinions, and lifestyles. These disparities reportedly led to frequent disagreements and arguments, even over minor household issues.
The plea further noted that despite multiple interventions from parents, relatives, and close friends to facilitate a reconciliation, the efforts proved unsuccessful. The couple eventually realized that living under the same roof had become increasingly difficult, leading them to reside separately since July 2, 2024.
The journey of Hansika and Sohael was once viewed as a modern-day fairytale. Their relationship milestones were often shared with millions of followers on social media:
- November 2022: Sohael Khaturiya proposed to Hansika in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, a moment that went viral instantly.
- December 4, 2022: The couple tied the knot in a lavish, traditional Hindu ceremony at the Mandota Fort and Palace in Jaipur.
- 2023: Their wedding journey became a Disney+ Hotstar reality series titled Hansika’s Love Shaadi Drama.
- July 2024: The couple officially began living apart, marking the beginning of the end.
- 2025: Speculation peaked when Hansika deleted her wedding photographs and videos from her Instagram profile.
Despite the personal upheaval, Hansika remains a powerhouse in the South Indian film industry. Known for her prolific work in Tamil and Telugu cinema, the actor has maintained a busy professional schedule throughout the separation period.
Her lawyer emphasized that Hansika is now looking forward to focusing entirely on her professional commitments. With several projects in the pipeline, including the anticipated Telugu thriller Nasha and recent appearances as a judge on the dance show Dhee Celebrity Special 2, the actor appears determined to turn the page.
For Sohael Khaturiya, the businessman has remained largely out of the public eye since late 2023, choosing not to comment on the divorce or the social media rumours that preceded it.
Industry analysts observe that this case follows a growing trend among high-profile celebrities who prioritize mutual consent petitions and alimony waivers to avoid the “media circus” typically associated with contested divorces. By handling the matter with maturity, both Hansika and Sohael have ensured that their legacy remains tied to their work rather than their legal disputes.
