In a major development for the Indian film industry, National Award-winning director Vivek Agnihotri is set to collaborate with production giant Bhushan Kumar for his next ambitious project. Titled Operation Sindoor, the film marks a significant partnership between T-Series and I Am Buddha Production, promising to bring one of India’s most intense recent military chapters to the silver screen.
While the makers have kept specific plot points under wraps, sources confirm that the film draws direct inspiration from the 2025 military operation of the same name. Known for his unapologetic and research-driven storytelling in The Kashmir Files and The Vaccine War, Vivek Agnihotri now turns his lens toward a narrative of national resilience and strategic retaliation.
The heart of the film lies in the harrowing developments that unfolded in the spring of 2025. According to reports, the script focuses on the aftermath of the Pahalgam massacre, a brutal terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir that targeted innocent civilians. On April 22, 2025, the serene Baisaran meadows became the site of a tragedy when militants opened fire on a group of tourists, claiming 26 lives.
The film reportedly chronicles the subsequent intelligence-gathering and the high-stakes decision-making that led the Indian government to authorize Operation Sindoor. This operation served as the codename for India’s targeted, multi-dimensional strikes on terror launchpads located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7, 2025.
This project brings together two of the most influential names in modern Indian cinema. Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, currently enjoying a massive box-office run with the success of Border 2, provides the grand scale and production muscle required for a military epic. On the other hand, Vivek Agnihotri’s I Am Buddha Production brings the gritty, truth-seeking directorial style that has become the filmmaker’s trademark.
Confirming the news of a “big nationalistic project,” Vivek Agnihotri recently stated:
“I am working on something very big and very interesting. It is a story that needs to be told with the right balance of facts and emotion. We will announce the full details at the right time.”
Industry insiders suggest that this collaboration aims to redefine the “war drama” genre by focusing on the “new India” doctrine—balancing strategic restraint with decisive action.
Operation Sindoor was notable not just for its military success but for its strategic clarity. The mission involved precision strikes on nine key terror hubs, including locations in Kotli and Muzaffarabad, while intentionally avoiding civilian and military installations to prevent full-scale escalation.
The film is expected to explore these nuances, showcasing the synergy between the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force that characterized the real-world mission.
Having recently completed his “Files” trilogy with The Bengal Files in late 2025, Agnihotri is moving into a more action-oriented space. While his previous works focused on historical trauma and scientific breakthroughs, Operation Sindoor allows him to delve into the modern-day complexities of cross-border conflict and national security.
Fans of the director expect a “no-holds-barred” look at the events, likely featuring his signature style of intercutting personal human stories with high-level geopolitical drama.
Although the official announcement is imminent, details regarding the lead cast and the production timeline remain a closely guarded secret. There is significant speculation regarding whether Agnihotri will cast frequent collaborators or look for fresh faces to portray the soldiers and strategists of the operation.
With T-Series behind the project, the film is expected to be one of the biggest releases of late 2026 or early 2027. As the nation awaits the first look, Operation Sindoor is already being hailed as a cinematic tribute to the resolve of the Indian Armed Forces.
