The much-awaited rom-com Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, featuring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, has had its release date pushed back once again. The film, which has seen multiple changes to its theatrical schedule, is now set to hit the big screens on October 2, 2025. This latest move places the film on a major national holiday, setting the stage for a potential box office clash.
The film ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ was first slated to hit theatres on April 18, 2025. The date was then moved to September 12, 2025, to make way for other big-ticket releases like “Kesari 2.” The latest shift to October 2, 2025, places the film on a prime holiday weekend, coinciding with both Gandhi Jayanti and the start of the Dussehra festive period.
A Star-Studded Cast Promises Entertainment
Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the film features a stellar ensemble cast led by Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor. The two actors, who previously shared the screen in “Bawaal,” are joined by a talented supporting cast that includes Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, Maniesh Paul, and Akshay Oberoi.
According to sources close to the production, the decision to move the release date to October 2 was a calculated one. The makers, including producer Karan Johar, believe this festive period offers a more lucrative window for a family-friendly romantic comedy. The long weekend and holiday footfall are expected to provide the film with a strong opening and a clean run until the Diwali festivities begin.
A Box Office Clash on the Horizon
The new release date, however, sets up a major box office clash with Rishab Shetty’s highly awaited prequel, “Kantara: Chapter 1,” which has already locked the same date. This sets the stage for an unexpected and intriguing face-off between two films with completely different tones and target audiences. While “Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari” promises to be a quintessential Bollywood rom-com with its peppy music and glamorous sets, “Kantara: Chapter 1” is a culturally rooted action-drama with a massive pan-India fan base.
For director Shashank Khaitan, “Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari” marks a return to the genre he is best known for, following his successful romantic comedies “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania” and “Badrinath Ki Dulhania.” The film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Shashank Khaitan, under the banners of Dharma Productions and Mentor Disciple Films.
The Road Ahead for the Cast
Varun recently completed shooting for the war drama “Border 2” and has “Hain Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hain” in the works. On the other hand, Janhvi Kapoor is also gearing up for the release of “Param Sundari.”
The journey to the big screen for “Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari” has been a winding one, but the new release date and the intriguing box office clash have only added to the excitement. Fans now eagerly await the film’s arrival on October 2, 2025.
