Legal Shadow Falls on “Ramayana”: Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi starrer Faces IPR Dispute

Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi in Ramayana

The highly anticipated Ramayana film, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, has hit a roadblock. As per reports, the production is embroiled in a legal battle concerning Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). This unexpected hurdle casts a shadow on the project and raises questions about its future.

The dispute centres around the ownership of the title “Project Ramayana” and the script material. According to sources, Allu Mantena Media Ventures LLP, the initial production house, claims ownership of these elements. They allege that negotiations with Prime Focus Technologies Limited, who were brought in for the project, fell through due to incomplete payments.

Allu Mantena Media maintains that the rights to “Project Ramayana” remain theirs. They have issued a public notice declaring that any use of the script or related materials by Prime Focus Technologies or their affiliates would be considered copyright infringement. This puts the current production team, including director Nitesh Tiwari and co-producer Yash, in a precarious situation.

The news comes as a surprise, considering reports of the film already being in its shooting stage. Leaked photos of Ranbir Kapoor in costume have recently generated excitement among fans. However, this legal entanglement could lead to delays, production halts, or even a complete shutdown if not resolved swiftly.

Industry insiders are closely watching the developments. Speculations abound about the potential impact on the film’s release date and the fate of the invested resources. The question of who holds the legal upper hand and how Prime Focus Technologies plans to respond remains unanswered.

This incident highlights the importance of clear and ironclad IPR agreements in the film industry. Incomplete contracts or misunderstandings about ownership can lead to costly legal battles, jeopardizing entire projects.

The Ramayana adaptation has been a highly anticipated project, promising a fresh take on the epic tale. Whether the film overcomes this hurdle and reaches the silver screen is yet to be seen.

One thing remains certain: the days ahead will be crucial for the “Ramayana” team. A swift and amicable resolution is necessary to ensure the film’s smooth production and eventual release.
