Following days of intense speculation regarding a legal standoff that threatened to derail one of Bollywood’s most anticipated sequels, filmmaker Raaj Shaandilyaa has officially broken his silence. Issuing a detailed statement, the director responded to the reported dispute with Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms and confirmed that the production of Bhagam Bhag 2 remains on track.
The clarification brings major relief to fans of the franchise after earlier reports claimed that the film had paused shooting following a breach of contract allegation by Ekta Kapoor.
The core of the controversy involves a three-film deal Raaj Shaandilyaa previously signed with Balaji Telefilms. Reports surfaced last week claiming that Ekta Kapoor had initiated legal proceedings because Shaandilyaa allegedly moved on to outside projects without completing his third-film obligation or obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC).
Responding to these claims, Shaandilyaa clarified that he has already exercised his right to end the partnership. “In accordance with my contractual rights, I issued a notice terminating my arrangement with Balaji Telefilms,” the filmmaker stated.

Crucially, Shaandilyaa highlighted a perceived lack of legal follow-through from the other side. “It has now been over two weeks since the termination notice was issued. If Balaji Telefilms truly believed it had valid legal grounds to contest the termination, it could have moved the appropriate civil court. However, it has not done so,” he added, shifting the narrative back toward his contractual autonomy.
Perhaps the most significant part of the director’s statement concerns the current status of the Bhagam Bhag sequel. Initial reports indicated that the producers—Ashwin Varde and Cape of Good Films—had cancelled the India and Lucknow schedules to avoid legal complications. Shaandilyaa, however, has dismissed these claims of a shutdown.
“It may also be clarified that the film Bhagam Bhag 2 is very much on track and the project will proceed as scheduled,” he confirmed. This “active” stance suggests that any internal logistical reshuffling was either temporary or misinterpreted by industry insiders. For the fans, this means the return of the iconic “Run-for-your-life” comedy brand remains a 2026 reality.
The friction between the two powerhouses began when Ekta Kapoor reportedly sent legal notices to not only Shaandilyaa but also the producers of his current ventures. The crux of the “breach of contract” claim rested on the director’s failure to refund an advance payment and his decision to sign two major films outside the Balaji banner.
While the legal notice aimed to stall the shoot, Shaandilyaa’s latest statement acts as a counter-offensive, suggesting that a mere notice does not constitute a court-ordered stay on production. By pointing out that Balaji has not yet moved a civil court for an injunction, the director is signalling to the industry and his investors that the legal “turmoil” is currently more of a private disagreement than a judicial hurdle.
The pressure to keep Bhagam Bhag 2 on schedule is immense, given the star power involved. Coordinating the dates of Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpayee, and Paresh Rawal is a monumental task. Any prolonged delay would risk losing these actors to other commitments, potentially pushing the film back by years.
Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal’s comedic chemistry is the backbone of the franchise, while the addition of Manoj Bajpayee has added a layer of critical prestige to the project. Shaandilyaa’s firm confirmation that the project is “on track” serves to reassure the cast and crew that their blocked dates will not go to waste.
As the industry watches closely, the next move lies with Balaji Telefilms. Should they decide to escalate the matter to a civil court as Raaj Shaandilyaa challenged, the production could face a renewed threat. However, for now, the director has reclaimed the narrative, insisting that the laughter will continue as planned.
