The OMG franchise, known for its bold satirical take on faith and society, has recently become the center of intense behind-the-scenes drama. From allegations of uncredited story ideas regarding OMG 2 to high-profile exits in the upcoming Oh My Goddess (OMG 3), the franchise is currently navigating significant creative and professional friction.
In a recent and surprising revelation, veteran actor Paresh Rawal has alleged that the core concept behind the 2023 hit OMG 2 originated with him, and he feels deeply sidelined by the lack of acknowledgement. Speaking to journalist Vickey Lalwani, Rawal detailed how he approached director Amit Rai with a story concept centered on a father fighting for his son after a private act of the boy is leaked, leading to severe social ostracization.
According to Paresh Rawal, the project was never intended to be an OMG sequel, nor did it feature any divine intervention. “Our main idea was to have a biker guiding the father, not God,” he stated, explaining that the narrative was meant to be a father-son drama focused on sex education and public judgment. He claims to have collaborated closely with Amit Rai to develop the script, even bringing in experts like sexologist Dr. Prakash Kothari to ensure the narrative was educational rather than vulgar.
Rawal alleges that the project changed course once Akshay Kumar expressed interest after the script reached producer Ashwin Varde. “I was under the impression that we were still figuring things out… A few days later, Amit Rai called and told me Akshay wanted to do the film,” Rawal recalled. Feeling the final film deviated significantly from his original vision—specifically the introduction of a divine character—and lacking proper credit, Rawal ultimately stepped away from the project. At the time of writing, Amit Rai, Akshay Kumar, and the producers of OMG 2 have not publicly responded to these claims.
While the franchise continues to make headlines, the upcoming third instalment, tentatively titled Oh My Goddess, is facing its own set of challenges. The film, which was highly anticipated for marking the first-ever on-screen collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Rani Mukerji, recently hit a major roadblock.
Reports confirm that Rani Mukerji has officially exited the project due to irreconcilable creative differences with director Amit Rai. Sources indicate that while the actress initially loved the script and the film’s core message, the pre-production phase revealed a clash in artistic visions.
Industry insiders suggest that Mukerji, with her extensive experience, sought to take an active role in shaping the character’s evolution and the final edit, which reportedly led to friction with Rai, who preferred to stick to his original directorial blueprint. “She was basically trying to direct the director,” a source noted, adding that what began as creative suggestions escalated into full-blown intrusion, leading the two to part ways.
Following Mukerji’s departure, the April 2026 shooting schedule was stalled. The production team is currently in an urgent search for a replacement, looking for a senior actress who possesses the necessary gravitas to lead the film alongside Akshay Kumar. Despite these setbacks, the makers remain committed to the project, which is expected to offer a “divine feminine twist” to the franchise’s signature narrative style.
