The excitement surrounding Bollywood’s freshest cinematic pairings has just notched up a gear. The makers of the upcoming high-energy spy comedy Udta Teer have officially announced a revised theatrical release date. Originally slated to arrive in September, the film will now open in cinemas worldwide on October 9, 2026, positioning itself strategically right ahead of the auspicious Navratri and festive holiday window.
Bringing a unique blend of covert chaos, mistaken identities, and rapid-fire wit, the film pairs versatile star Ayushmann Khurrana alongside vibrant leading lady Sara Ali Khan for the very first time.
The project marks the fourth major collaborative venture between Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga Kapoor’s Sikhya Entertainment, building upon a successful history of critically acclaimed and commercially engaging cinema.
The film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain. The combination of Dharma’s mainstream entertainment experience and Sikhya Entertainment’s association with distinctive storytelling has created considerable curiosity around the project.
The October 9 release also places the film in a potentially lucrative theatrical corridor. With Navratri and the wider festive season approaching, the makers could benefit from increased audience footfalls and a strong appetite for family-friendly entertainment.
For director Akash A. Kaushik—who has built a strong reputation as a writer on prominent comedies and entertainers—Udta Teer serves as his official transition into feature-length direction, combining slick technical styling with traditional situational comedy.
While tight-lipped about exact narrative twists, early production insights reveal that Udta Teer steps away from gritty, dark espionage thrillers to lean entirely into a madcap comic space.
The story follows an accidental, bumbling undercover operative (played by Khurrana) whose covert assignment spirals completely out of control when an unpredictable civilian counterpart (played by Khan) gets entangled in the crosshairs. Blending international spy tropes with domestic family dynamics, mistaken identities, and situational chaos, the film promises a laugh-out-loud cinematic ride tailored for a broad family audience.
Both leading actors have robust slates lined up, making Udta Teer a vital addition to their respective filmographies.
Ayushmann Khurrana continues to expand his filmography with projects that explore different genres and character types. Known for films such as Vicky Donor, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Badhaai Ho, Andhadhun, Article 15, Dream Girl and Bala, the actor has consistently experimented with unconventional subjects.
Sara Ali Khan has also maintained a diverse slate since making her Bollywood debut with Kedarnath. She subsequently appeared in films including Simmba, Love Aaj Kal, Coolie No. 1, Atrangi Re, Gaslight, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke and Ae Watan Mere Watan.
With its new October 9 release date locked, Udta Teer is primed to capitalize on the festive holiday mood, bringing light-hearted entertainment and high-octane chuckles back to the big screen.
