A fresh controversy has erupted in the Hindi film industry as the Indian Medical Association (IMA) formally approached the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), seeking an urgent review of the upcoming crime thriller Suryaa: Ant se Aarambh Tak, starring action superstar Sunny Deol.
The medical body has raised strong objections to the film’s promotional material, arguing that its depiction of medical professionals and the healthcare system promotes hostility and tarnishes the reputation of the entire medical fraternity.
IMA’s Objections: Normalizing Violence and Professional Misconduct
The friction began shortly after the makers dropped the film’s high-octane teaser, which features Sunny Deol as a brooding, grief-stricken protagonist seeking answers. In the promotional clip, the narrative touches upon medical malpractices, with dialogues pointing to commercial exploitation in healthcare.
- The Stigma of Corruption: The IMA’s representation letter stressed that sweeping generalizations portraying corruption, commercial greed, and unethical wrongdoing as widespread across the medical profession create dangerous public distrust. The association emphasized that while individual misconduct can be investigated, generalizing the entire fraternity damages doctor-patient relationships.
- Fuelling Violence Against Healthcare Workers: The medical body expressed deep concern over scenes depicting physical assaults and hostility directed toward healthcare personnel. Highlighting the severe security and safety challenges doctors already face inside hospitals, the IMA warned that presenting such acts as justified or heroic onscreen normalizes violence and endangers frontline workers.

Official Stance: MIB and CBFC Response
In response to the growing backlash and representation by the medical association, regulatory authorities have clarified the film’s current administrative standing:
- Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Position: Responding to queries regarding the controversy, sources within the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting clarified that the makers of Suryaa: Ant se Aarambh Tak have not yet submitted the film to the CBFC for official certification.
- Pending Review: Because the censor board has not evaluated or cleared the final cut, authorities noted that formal evaluation regarding content modifications will occur only after the producers formally apply for certification through standard statutory procedures.
The makers of the film have yet to issue a detailed counter-statement addressing the medical association’s grievances.
