Acclaimed character actor Rajesh Sharma has finally put months of speculation to rest regarding a major health scare that landed him in the hospital earlier this year. Dismissing widespread rumours that he suffered a venomous insect or spider bite while filming on the sets of Prabhas’ upcoming period drama Fauzi, the actor has stepped forward to clarify the actual medical cause behind his sudden hospitalization.
The clarification comes as a major relief to fans and clears the production unit of any liability following sensationalized reports that had previously triggered industry-wide safety concerns.
Clearing the Air: “It’s False News”
The health scare initially came to light back in July, when a press note issued by actor Sudipa Chatterjee claimed that Rajesh Sharma had suffered a dangerous insect bite—possibly from a bug or poisonous spider—while interacting with technicians near dense vegetation at Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City after a pack-up. The note had detailed how his health rapidly deteriorated during his flight back to Kolkata, leading to his subsequent admission to Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria. The incident had even prompted bodies like the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) to demand safety investigations.
Setting the record straight in a recent interview with NDTV, Rajesh Sharma explicitly rejected those accounts:
“It’s false news. Nothing happened on Prabhas’s film set. Neither Prabhas nor the unit was responsible in any way. They are nice people. Nothing happened in Hyderabad while I was shooting there. After I flew back to Kolkata, in a day or two, the situation became severe.”
The Real Culprit: Unmanaged Diabetes and Skin Infection
Disclosing the actual sequence of events, Sharma revealed that his medical emergency stemmed from pre-existing health complications rather than any on-set hazard.
- The Underlying Condition: The 55-year-old actor shared that he had been dealing with a persistent skin problem on his right leg for a considerable period.
- The Complicating Factor: His condition escalated rapidly because his blood sugar and diabetes levels were exceptionally high, a factor he admitted he did not take seriously enough at the outset.
- The Escalation: What began as a neglected skin issue developed into a severe, aggressive infection only after he had returned home to Kolkata, eventually requiring intensive medical intervention.
Defending his colleague Sudipa Chatterjee—who had originally shared the alarming updates—Sharma noted that she acted purely out of friendship and concern, albeit based on misinformation.
Recovery and Current Status
With his rigorous medical treatment now successfully completed, Rajesh Sharma is well on the road to recovery. Expressing gratitude for his health, the actor shared that he is resting at home and eagerly hopes to return to active shooting schedules within a week.
Meanwhile, the project at the center of the initial rumours, Hanu Raghavapudi’s directorial venture Fauzi—starring Prabhas alongside an ensemble featuring Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Imanvi, and Rajesh Sharma himself—has recently been making headlines for sliding into a 2027 release window. With the health controversy firmly put to rest, the actor is primed to resume his packed professional commitments.
