Veteran Bollywood actor and former Member of Parliament Govinda has taken a strict legal stance against the continuous circulation of unverified gossip concerning his personal life. Through a formal legal notice issued on his behalf, the actor has cautioned media organizations, digital channels, and social media content creators against publishing defamatory, misleading, or fabricated content about him and his family.
The decisive action comes in the wake of viral social media speculation surrounding his marriage, including unverified claims regarding a secret court ceremony and past reports concerning his relationship with his wife, Sunita Ahuja.
A major focal point of the legal notice addresses the rampant misuse of modern digital technology. The notice explicitly warns against the creation and sharing of digitally altered photographs, audio recordings, morphed images, deepfakes, and synthetic content generated via artificial intelligence.
The actor’s legal team emphasized that no permission has been granted to anyone to exploit, alter, or commercially leverage Govinda’s voice, image, identity, or private family matters through AI. Creators found using these technologies to misrepresent the actor face severe legal repercussions.
According to the issued directives, persistent offenders who continue to circulate malicious or fabricated narratives will face rigorous civil and criminal action. The notice highlights applicable statutes under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Furthermore, the legal notice warns that damages amounting to up to ₹100 crore may be sought from individuals and platforms found responsible for intentionally tarnishing the actor’s reputation. Legal measures could also extend to seeking court interventions targeting digital accounts, revenue streams, and associated online networks.
The legal action follows days of heightened public attention driven by media speculation. Tensions escalated after public discussions and viral videos emerged concerning Sunita Ahuja‘s visit to a Mumbai family court and subsequent comments regarding a divorce petition withdrawal. Rumours subsequently snowballed on digital platforms alleging a link-up and a secret court marriage with actress Komal Rani Swarnkar.
Describing these claims as completely untrue and part of a targeted attempt to cause mental and social distress, Legal counsel of Govinda has urged all digital platforms to immediately remove unverified content to avoid stringent prosecution.
