Prahaar Release Date Postponed: Rajkummar Rao’s The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam Now Arrives October 16

Maddock Films has officially announced a revised theatrical release date for its much-awaited biographical drama Prahaar – The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam. Headlined by versatile actor Rajkummar Rao alongside Wamiqa Gabbi, the film will now open in cinemas worldwide on October 16, 2026.

Initially locked for an August 7 release window, the production house shifted the calendar schedule to position the intense legal drama firmly within the high-impact Q4 theatrical lineup. Maddock Films broke the news across their official social media handles, sharing a fierce update that reads:

“Ab hoga justice ka PRAHAAR on 16th October. #PRAHAAR – The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam, in cinemas 16th October 2026.”

As its title suggests, Prahaar chronicles the extraordinary professional journey and high-stakes career of veteran public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. Renowned for representing the state in numerous landmark legal proceedings that heavily influenced modern Indian history, Nikam’s career is synonymous with unyielding tenacity in the courtroom.

The narrative is expected to revisit several critical criminal trials of national significance, including the legal complexities surrounding the 1993 Bombay Blasts and the 2008 Mumbai Train Attacks. Special emphasis in the storyline is projected toward the intense prosecution of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist captured during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, where Nikam’s stellar prosecution secured justice on a global stage.

The promotional teaser released earlier highlighted the heavy emotional and political weight of these trials, anchored by the striking tagline: “Killing Kasab was easy, proving who sent him was war.”

  • Director: The biographical drama is helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Avinash Arun Dhaware (recognized for his nuanced storytelling in projects like Paatal Lok and Three of Us). His directorial approach aims to blend high-octane courtroom mechanics with a grounded look at the personal pressures faced by public figures.
  • Producer: Backed by Dinesh Vijan under the banner of Maddock Films, the project continues the banner’s streak of mounting content-driven, real-life narratives.
  • Cast: Alongside Rajkummar Rao—who underwent a dramatic physical transformation for the role, gaining weight and adopting distinct mannerisms—and Wamiqa Gabbi, the film features a formidable supporting ensemble including Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher.

With its new October 16 release date locked, Prahaar stands tall as one of the major cinematic events of the season, promising an unfiltered exploration of conviction, justice, and the pursuit of truth.
