Telugu cinema powerhouse Jr NTR is set to undergo a scheduled shoulder surgery at KIMS Hospitals in Hyderabad today, Wednesday, August 12. The procedure comes after detailed medical evaluations following an unfortunate physical setback the actor suffered while working.
Jr NTR’s core team released an official statement confirming the development, reassuring fans across the globe that the procedure is a structured step toward ensuring a full and safe recovery.
The official statement from the actor’s camp read:
“NTR will be undergoing a shoulder surgery tomorrow at KIMS Hospitals, Hyderabad. The surgery has been scheduled following a medical evaluation of the shoulder injury. The team of doctors is working towards a smooth recovery of NTR. We will keep you updated on his progress following the surgery. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
The injury occurred during a rigorous shooting schedule. While filming a high-octane, action-heavy sequence for his highly anticipated film Dragon, Jr NTR sustained an unfortunate trauma to his shoulder.
Initial medical assessments by a specialist team—headed by Dr. J. Madhusudan Rao and Dr. R. A. Purnachandra Tejaswi—initially advised a strict window of complete rest. However, subsequent evaluations determined that a surgical intervention was necessary to properly stabilize the joint and ensure long-term physical durability, prompting today’s procedure at KIMS.
The latest surgery announcement now provides greater clarity about the seriousness of the injury and the immediate break that NTR needs before returning to an intensive shooting schedule.
The injury temporary paused production on Dragon, one of the most closely tracked pan-Indian action thrillers currently on floors:
- The Premise: Directed by blockbuster filmmaker Prashanth Neel (of KGF and Salaar fame), Dragon plunges into a dark, gritty 1967 backdrop centered around the international opium trade and the clandestine networks of the Golden Triangle.
- The Cast: Jr NTR stars as “Luger,” the feared assassin-in-chief of the Afghan Trading Company. He shares screen space with veteran actor Anil Kapoor, who plays the chief of the narcotics bureau locked in a fierce face-off with the protagonist, alongside Rukmini Vasanth and Biju Menon.
- Release Window: Jointly backed by Mythri Movie Makers and NTR Arts, the film is slated to hit theatres worldwide on June 11, 2027.
Beyond his current commitments on Dragon, Jr NTR maintains an extraordinary lineup of marquee projects that underline his status as a global pan-Indian icon:
- Collaboration with Trivikram Srinivas: Following the completion of his current commitments, Jr NTR is locked to headline a massive, conceptual mythological-action epic directed by renowned filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas, marking another major creative reunion for the duo.
His immediate confirmed big-screen commitment remains Dragon, which has a June 2027 release date. Devara: Part 2 has also been discussed extensively, although its production status remains uncertain, so it would be premature to treat it as a firm upcoming release without a fresh official confirmation.
As the actor heads into surgery today, millions of fans and industry peers have flooded social media with wishes for a rapid and smooth recovery, eagerly awaiting his return to the sets.
