In a major development shaking the Hindi film industry, veteran Bollywood writer, producer, and director Shakeel Noorani has been arrested by the Mumbai Police. The 73-year-old filmmaker was apprehended following a serious complaint filed by a 33-year-old actor accusing him of rape, drugging, criminal intimidation, and blackmail.
Following an intensive manhunt that lasted nearly 40 days after the initial FIR was registered, law enforcement tracked the filmmaker down to a remote farmhouse and brought him back to Mumbai for formal interrogation and legal proceedings.
According to the details emerging from the First Information Report (FIR) lodged at the Malwani police station, the allegations stem from incidents that trace back over a period of time:
- The Initial Encounter: The complainant stated that she first came into contact with the filmmaker and was later invited to his residence in Malwani under the pretext of discussing an upcoming film script and professional project.
- The Alleged Assault and Blackmail: The actor alleged that during her visit, her drink was spiked, rendering her unconscious. When she regained consciousness, Noorani allegedly showed her a compromising video recorded on his mobile phone.
- Ongoing Threats: The complaint further claims that the filmmaker threatened to circulate the explicit footage if she approached the police or confided in her family, subsequently using the video to sexually assault her on multiple occasions.
Authorities have booked the director under severe provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections pertaining to rape, causing hurt by means of poison, criminal intimidation, and causing a miscarriage.
Shakeel Noorani had reportedly been evading law enforcement ever since the case was registered roughly 40 days ago.
Police teams conducted multiple searches, including checking his son’s residence located in Lokhandwala, Andheri. However, utilizing advanced technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, investigators finally located him hiding out at a farmhouse in Medha, Satara district.
Local counterparts detained the filmmaker, and a Mumbai Police team subsequently took him into custody. Following his transfer to Mumbai, Noorani was produced before the Borivali Holiday Court, which remanded him to police custody.
While the investigation gathers pace, legal representatives for the filmmaker have strongly refuted the claims. Noorani’s defense counsel, Vikas Singh Goar, maintained that his client has been falsely implicated in the matter. Legal teams emphasize that the accusations have yet to be tested or established in a court of law, and the filmmaker remains subject to ongoing police inquiries.
