As anticipation reaches a fever pitch for Nitesh Tiwari’s visionary cinematic adaptation of Ramayana Part One, producer Namit Malhotra has pulled back the curtain on an unconventional and closely tracked global release strategy.
With the recent launch of the English-dubbed trailer sparking widespread discussions due to its listed November 6 date, Malhotra addressed the timeline head-on in an exclusive interview with NDTV. He confirmed that while international territories will experience the epic saga on Friday, November 6, 2026, Indian audiences will witness the film on the big screen two days later, on Sunday, November 8, 2026, perfectly coinciding with the festival of Diwali.
Addressing the gap between the overseas and domestic premieres, Malhotra shed light on the mechanics of global distribution frameworks.
During his interaction with NDTV, when asked if Ramayana would arrive in Indian theatres on November 8, Malhotra replied in the affirmative, stating:
“It’ll release in India on Diwali.”
Explaining why the international trailer bears a November 6 date, the producer elaborated:
“So, we are releasing internationally (on November 6). The international distribution works from a Friday standpoint. So, that is on the 6th of November. But India currently we are targeting a release on Diwali.”
While Dharma Productions is steering the distribution across North India, Sony Pictures has locked down international distribution rights, tailoring a coordinated global rollout designed to maximize box-office potential across more than 50,000 screens worldwide.
Mounting what is widely projected as one of the most expensive cinematic properties ever built, the makers have brought together an extraordinary pan-Indian and global roster of talent:
- Ranbir Kapoor steps into the luminous and righteous role of Lord Rama.
- Sai Pallavi essays the grace and resilience of Mata Sita.
- Yash transforms into the formidable antagonist, Ravana.

Helmed by Dangal (2016) director Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra through Prime Focus Studios and Monster Mind Creations, the sonic landscape of the film matches its monumental canvas, featuring a rare musical collaboration between Oscar-winner A.R. Rahman and legendary Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer.
Ramayana is mapped out as a monumental, multi-part live-action feature saga.
Part One dives deep into the formative roots of the timeless mythological narrative—tracing the divine birth of Prince Rama of Ayodhya, his idyllic youth, the profound bonds with his brothers, and the pivotal circumstances leading to his righteous exile into the forest alongside Sita and Lakshman. Blending high-end visual effects by DNEG with deep emotional storytelling, the first instalment builds up to the inciting incidents that set the stage for an ultimate clash of good versus evil.
Following the release of Part One on Diwali 2026, the second chapter of the saga is already slated to arrive on the big screen on Diwali 2027, cementing a historic two-year cinematic event for global audiences.
