Following a massive commercial success at the start of the year, young Bollywood star Ahan Shetty is ready to switch gears. According to recent industry reports, the actor has officially come on board to headline filmmaker Vikram Bhatt’s upcoming supernatural thriller, 1920: Cold Winter, which serves as the sixth installment in the iconic 1920 horror franchise.
Sources close to the development reveal that Ahan Shetty is keen to diversify his cinematic profile rather than getting typecast in standard commercial hero molds. After making his debut in the romantic action drama Tadap and subsequently playing a pivotal role in the multi-starrer war film Border 2, the actor views 1920: Cold Winter as an ideal vehicle to test his mettle in the horror space.
“This will be Ahan’s first brush with the supernatural genre,” an insider shared. “He wants to do a variety of roles, and that’s why he is carefully choosing movies that belong to different genres”.
While the project is currently in its final scripting stages, director Vikram Bhatt and producer Anand Pandit are actively locking down the female lead, reportedly seeking an established face rather than a newcomer. If schedules align, principal photography is slated to kick off this November, with initial location recces planned in Scotland alongside portions to be filmed in the scenic backdrop of Shimla.
Ahan Shetty’s journey in the Hindi film industry has been marked by selective and high-impact choices:
- Tadap (2021): Directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, this intense romantic actioner served as his debut vehicle, winning him widespread recognition and the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Male.
- Border 2 (2026): Ahan Shetty returned to the silver screen in a powerful ensemble war drama portraying Major Lt Cdr Mahendra Singh Rawat, contributing to one of the highest-grossing blockbusters of the year.
- Sanki: In addition to the newly reported horror venture, Ahan is slated to star in director Tinu Desai’s action thriller Sanki, a title he personally secured with the support of producer Sajid Nadiadwala.
As Ahan prepares for his chilling new role in 1920: Cold Winter, fans can expect an official announcement from the makers regarding the complete cast and exact release timelines in the coming weeks.
