The rumours surrounding the actor Shanaya Kapoor foraying into South Indian cinema appear to be nearing confirmation. Multiple industry reports suggest that the 26-year-old actor is set to make her big-budget Telugu debut in Zombie Reddy 2, the sequel to the cult 2021 zombie-comedy hit.
She is reportedly paired opposite Teja Sajja, who has rapidly ascended to pan-Indian stardom following the massive successes of HanuMan and Mirai.
Industry insiders believe this collaboration is a calculated step for Kapoor. By choosing a high-concept franchise like Zombie Reddy 2 rather than a traditional lead role opposite an established superstar, she is aiming to make a distinct impression.
“She has been sensible to choose a zombie comedy, and one opposite an actor who is still rising in the ranks, rather than doing a film opposite a big star and getting lost in the frame,” a source noted. The sequel is being mounted on a grand scale by the renowned production house People Media Factory. While the original film was directed by Prasanth Varma, who remains involved as the writer of this installment, the director’s chair for the sequel has reportedly been handed to Suparn Varma. Known for his work on the high-octane web series Rana Naidu, Varma is expected to bring a darker, more intense vision to this “deadly zombie universe.”
According to reports, the film’s first schedule is already underway, and Shanaya Kapoor has reportedly completed a brief portion of the shooting. The production is eyeing a theatrical release in the first half of 2027, with the makers aiming to capitalize on the unique blend of horror and humour that made the first film a commercial success.
This is not Kapoor’s first brush with the South Indian film industry. She was previously announced as a lead in the multilingual project Vrushabha, alongside superstar Mohanlal. Although she participated in the initial phase of that project, she eventually stepped away due to scheduling conflicts.
