Bollywood heartthrob Varun Dhawan has officially joined the star-studded cast of the highly anticipated sequel, “Border 2.” The film, which is a follow-up to the iconic 1997 war drama “Border,” will again feature the legendary Sunny Deol in the lead role. The talented Anurag Singh is directing the sequel.
Varun Dhawan, known for his energetic performances and charismatic screen presence, expressed his excitement about being a part of such a prestigious project. He shared his excitement from watching The Border in Theatre to be a part of the sequel. I’m looking forward to paying tribute to the brave soldiers who fought for our country and sharing their stories with a new generation,” he said.
The original “Border,” directed by J.P. Dutta, was a critical and commercial success, earning numerous awards and accolades. The film chronicled the true story of the Battle of Longewala, a fierce confrontation between Indian and Pakistani forces during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War.
“Border 2” is expected to delve deeper into the lives of the soldiers who fought on the front lines, exploring their struggles, sacrifices, and unwavering patriotism. The film will also showcase the advancements in military technology and tactics since the original movie.
Sunny Deol, who reprises his iconic role as Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri, shared his enthusiasm about working with Dhawan. He welcomed Fauji Varun Dhawan to the battalion of Border 2. “I’m confident that he will bring a fresh perspective to the film and connect with audiences deeply,” he said.
The highly anticipated sequel, “Border 2,” has officially secured a Republic Day 2026 release. The film, which is being produced by the legendary J.P. Dutta and Bhushan Kumar, will hit theatres on January 23, 2026.
Director Anurag Singh, known for his work on films like “Punjab 1984” and “Jatt And Juliet,” expressed his vision for the sequel. “We want to pay homage to the sacrifices made by our soldiers while also highlighting the importance of peace and unity,” he said.
The producers have not yet announced the rest of the cast or the release date. However, the film is expected to go into production later this year.
