The Punjabi entertainment world is in deep mourning today following the tragic passing of popular singer and actor Rajvir Jawanda. The 35-year-old artist, known for hit songs like ‘Sardari’ and ‘Kali Jawande Di,’ succumbed to severe injuries at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, after battling for his life for nearly 12 days.
Jawanda had been on advanced life support since he was admitted in an extremely critical condition following a horrific motorcycle accident late last month. His untimely death sends shockwaves through his fan base and the entire Punjabi music and film fraternity.
The tragic accident occurred on Saturday, September 27, near the Baddi area of Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district. Jawanda was reportedly traveling to Shimla on his motorcycle when the unforeseen happened. His bike collided with stray cattle that suddenly came onto the road, causing a major crash.
He sustained severe head and spinal injuries in the mishap. Initial reports indicate the gravity of his condition immediately following the crash. He was first rushed to a local medical facility, where he reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest before being transferred to Fortis Hospital, Mohali, for advanced critical care.
Upon arrival at Fortis Hospital, a specialized team of emergency and neurosurgery doctors immediately assessed Jawanda’s condition. He was placed on a ventilator and advanced life support owing to the critical nature of his injuries. The medical team fought tirelessly for almost 12 days, maintaining close monitoring in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
However, doctors frequently described his neurological condition as ‘extremely critical,’ noting minimal brain activity and no significant improvement despite continuous, intensive medical management. The extensive trauma proved too severe. Rajvir Jawanda ultimately succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, October 8, bringing a premature end to a promising career.
The news of Jawanda’s death has led to an outpouring of grief from fans, colleagues, and political leaders. Fellow artists, including Diljit Dosanjh, Gippy Grewal, Kanwar Grewal, and Neeru Bajwa, shared heartfelt condolences, expressing profound sadness over the loss of a vibrant talent. Many had earlier visited the hospital, and fans had organized numerous ardas (prayers) in Gurdwaras, fervently hoping for his recovery.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also expressed his concern on social media, reflecting the widespread sorrow felt across the region. “Gone too soon,” became a common refrain on social media platforms, underscoring the deep affection the public held for the singer.
Hailing from Ludhiana, Rajvir Jawanda built a formidable reputation in the Punjabi music scene with his distinctive voice and compelling on-stage presence. His discography included chart-toppers like ‘Surname,’ ‘Mera Dil,’ and ‘Sardari,’ earning him millions of streams and a loyal global following.
Beyond music, the multi-talented artist also made his mark in Punjabi cinema, with notable roles in films such as Jind Jaan and Mindo Taseeldarni. Just a week before the accident, he had released his latest song, ‘Tu Dis Painda,’ which was receiving a positive response from music lovers.
Jawanda’s passing at the young age of 35 is a devastating loss for the Punjabi entertainment industry. His legacy as a singer and actor will resonate for years to come, but his sudden absence leaves a void that will be keenly felt by his family, friends, and legions of devoted fans.
