The highly anticipated release of Prabhas‘ upcoming film “The Raja Saab” is officially postponed. After months of speculation, the makers have confirmed that the film, which was previously scheduled to hit theatres on December 5, 2025, will now release on January 9, 2026. The new date places the film squarely in the middle of the lucrative Pongal festival weekend, setting the stage for a massive and direct box office clash with Vijay starrer “Jana Nayagan.”
The news, which was earlier reported as a rumour by various entertainment portals, was officially announced by the film’s producer, TG Vishwa Prasad of People Media Factory, marking the end of all speculation and paving the way for one of the biggest cinematic showdowns of 2026.
The postponement of “The Raja Saab” is not a sign of production trouble but a strategic decision. The film, directed by Maruthi, is an ambitious project that requires extensive post-production and visual effects (VFX) work. The makers decided to move the release date to ensure a flawless final product, giving their team the necessary time to perfect the VFX-heavy sequences.
A source close to the production explained that the team prioritizes quality over speed. “The decision was made to ensure uncompromised quality, as the VFX-heavy sequences required additional time,” the source stated. “The film has been in the making for a while, and we want to deliver a top-tier cinematic experience that lives up to the expectations of Prabhas’s fans.” The team is currently in the final leg of the shoot in Hyderabad, with the goal to wrap up principal photography by the end of October 2025.
The film will now go head-to-head with Vijay’s much-awaited action drama, “Jana Nayagan.” Both actors command a massive and dedicated following, and a direct clash between them promises an epic box office battle. Beyond the Vijay clash, “The Raja Saab” is also expected to compete with other major films scheduled for the Sankranti festival season, including Chiranjeevi’s Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu and Naveen Polisetty’s Anaganaga Oka Raju. This high-stakes environment will test the films’ mettle and a true measure of their box office appeal.
“The Raja Saab” has garnered significant buzz for its unique premise and casting. The film, which is described as a horror-comedy, features Prabhas in a dual role, a narrative choice that has excited fans who have been waiting to see the actor in a new, vintage style reminiscent of his pre-Baahubali era. The film’s impressive cast also includes Sanjay Dutt in a pivotal role and actresses Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Riddhi Kumar as the female leads.
The film’s journey has been marked by several delays, with initial plans for an April 2025 release that were later pushed to December. However, with the final schedule underway and an official release date locked, the team is now confident in its ability to deliver a blockbuster. The anticipation is sky-high, as fans are eager to see Prabhas in this new avatar, showcasing his versatility in a genre he hasn’t fully explored before.
