In a rapid response to mounting controversy and a police complaint, the Sunny Deol starrer “Jaat” producers have announced the immediate removal of a contentious scene from the film. This decision was a direct result of an FIR filed by Jalandhar Police against the “Jaat” team, including Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda, for allegedly causing religious offence under Section 299 of the BNS.
Police File FIR Over Scene Offending Christian Community
The legal action followed widespread outrage within the Christian community regarding a specific scene in “Jaat.” The scene depicted Randeep Hooda, who plays the antagonist Ranatunga, standing inside a church beneath a crucifix, positioned directly above the sacred pulpit, while churchgoers were shown in prayer. This portrayal was perceived by many as disrespectful towards Jesus Christ and Christian religious practices.
Makers of Jaat Issue Official Apology and Confirm Scene Removal
Responding swiftly to the escalating situation, the production houses, Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory, issued an official statement on Instagram. The statement conveyed their regret and confirmed the immediate removal of the controversial scene from all film versions currently running in cinemas.
The statement read: “There has been a backlash for a specific scene in the film. The scene has been removed from the film with immediate effect. Our intention was not to hurt any religious sentiments. We deeply regret it and have taken quick action to delete the scene from the film. We sincerely apologise to everyone whose beliefs have been hurt.”
By immediately removing the scene, they aim to mitigate further offence and potential escalation of the controversy.
Jaat Running Successfully Despite Controversy
Despite the controversy and the legal action, “Jaat,” which stars Sunny Deol in the titular role and features Randeep Hooda and Vineet Kumar Singh as antagonists, continues its successful run in cinemas. The film’s box office performance indicates a strong audience reception, even as the controversy unfolds.
Focus Shifts to Damage Control and Maintaining Harmony
With the removal of the controversial scene and the public apology issued by the makers, the focus will now likely shift towards damage control and maintaining social harmony. The swift response from Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory indicates their intent to resolve the issue amicably and ensure that the film does not continue to offend. The effectiveness of these measures in fully addressing the concerns of the Christian community remains to be seen.
