The Bombay High Court has intervened in the mutual divorce plea of Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma, directing the Family Court to expedite the proceedings by waiving the mandatory six-month cooling-off period. According to Live Law, the High Court has asked the Family Court to take up the matter on March 20, 2025, ensuring a swift resolution before the commencement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Court Orders Immediate Hearing in Yuzvendra Chahal & Dhanashree Case
On March 20, the Bombay High Court instructed the Bandra Magistrate Court to make a final decision before Thursday, March 20, 2025. The urgency of the ruling stems from Chahal’s involvement in the Rajasthan Royals squad for IPL 2025, with the court aiming to resolve his legal matters before the tournament begins.
Contrary to earlier rumours about a ₹60 crore alimony, it has been clarified that Chahal will pay ₹4.75 crore as part of the divorce settlement. However, during the initial hearing, Chahal had reportedly paid only ₹2.37 crore, leading the Family Court to deny the plea for an expedited divorce.

The court also considered a marriage counsellor’s report, which highlighted that Chahal had only partially complied with the settlement terms. This became a crucial reason for the Family Court’s initial denial.
Court Waives Cooling-Off Period in Yuzvendra Chahal & Dhanashree Case
Under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act, a six-month cooling-off period is typically mandatory before granting a mutual divorce decree. However, Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree had jointly filed a petition in the High Court, challenging the Family Court’s decision and requesting an exemption from this waiting period.
After reviewing the case, Justice Madhav Jamdar ruled in favour of the couple, allowing them to bypass the six-month waiting period. The ruling also confirmed that Chahal will pay the remaining alimony amount as a permanent settlement post-divorce.
