Ajay Devgn Kicks Off Filming for New Horror Thriller Directed by Rohit Jugraj

Superstar Ajay Devgn is officially diving back into the dark, supernatural realm. The actor has kicked off principal photography for his next high-concept horror thriller, teaming up with director Rohit Jugraj. Jointly backed by Devgn Films and Panorama Studios, the film launched with an auspicious muhurat shot, marking the beginning of an intense cinematic journey that draws inspiration from ancient mythological texts.

While the project is currently filming under wraps with working parameters, industry insiders suggest that the film is tentatively titled Griha Pravesh. The production is jointly produced by Ajay Devgn, Kumar Mangat Pathak, and Abhishek Pathak.

Following the massive box-office success of Vikas Bahl’s supernatural thriller Shaitaan (2024)—which re-established Devgn’s command over the horror genre—Griha Pravesh aims to take things down a significantly darker, more psychological path.

Reports indicate that the narrative draws deep conceptual roots from the ancient Garuda Purana, focusing heavily on the cosmic journey of the soul, karma, and the afterlife. In a striking shift from his conventional heroic and action-oriented mainstream roles, Devgn is slated to play a complex, morally ambiguous supernatural antagonist—a dark space he hasn’t heavily explored since his memorable villainous turns in the 2000s, such as Kaal (2005).

The opening leg of the schedule has commenced with a specialized set in Mumbai designed to capture eerie, atmospheric indoor sequences, after which the unit will move to the United Kingdom for an extensive international stint.

The project reunites Ajay Devgn with director Rohit Jugraj, whose diverse directorial background ranges from helming major Punjabi blockbusters like Sardaar Ji to directing the stylish musical-thriller series Chamak. Interestingly, Jugraj’s association with the horror genre goes back a long way, having previously worked as an assistant director on Ram Gopal Varma’s cult classic Bhoot (2003), which also featured Ajay Devgn.

The commencement of Griha Pravesh further cements one of the busiest schedules in Bollywood. Ajay Devgn’s upcoming slate boasts a wide spectrum of genres, catering to distinct cinematic audiences:

  • Drishyam 3: The much-awaited third chapter of the gripping suspense franchise, locked for an October theatrical release window.
  • Chauhaan: A gritty upcoming action thriller slated to roll towards the end of the year.
  • Golmaal 5: Director Rohit Shetty’s comedy franchise extension bringing back the chaotic ensemble.
  • Shaitaan 2: A planned continuation of the supernatural universe.
  • Ranger: Another high-octane commercial feature on his expansive production calendar.

With cameras now rolling on Griha Pravesh, Ajay Devgn continues to balance massive mainstream commercial entertainers with moody, content-driven supernatural thrillers, promising an exciting cinematic treat for genre fans.
