Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar and his wife, author Twinkle Khanna, narrowly escaped a major road mishap on Monday evening, January 19, 2026. The couple was returning home from the Mumbai airport when a “freak” chain collision involving a speeding luxury car and an auto-rickshaw struck their security convoy in the Juhu area.
While the “Khiladi” star and his wife emerged completely unhurt, the accident caused significant damage to their security detail and left the occupants of the involved auto-rickshaw with serious injuries. Demonstrating his real-life hero persona, eyewitnesses saw Akshay Kumar immediately jumping out of his vehicle to assist the victims at the scene.
The incident occurred around 9:00 PM near the Silver Beach Café on Mukteshwar Road, a high-traffic zone in Juhu. According to the Juhu Police and eyewitness accounts, the accident followed a violent chain reaction triggered by a third party.
- The Trigger: A speeding Mercedes-Benz reportedly lost control and rammed into the back of an auto-rickshaw.
- The Impact: The force of the collision pushed the three-wheeler into a Toyota Innova—the lead vehicle in Akshay Kumar’s security entourage.
- The Overturn: The impact was so severe that the security Innova reportedly flipped onto its side, while the auto-rickshaw was pinned and nearly crushed between the vehicles.
Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna were traveling in the SUV directly behind the security vehicle. While their car sustained minor impact, the actor’s quick-thinking driver managed to brake in time to avoid a direct hit.
Rather than staying inside his protected SUV, Akshay Kumar acted instantly. Viral videos captured by bystanders show the actor and his personal security staff running toward the mangled auto-rickshaw.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of panic as the auto-rickshaw driver and a female passenger remained trapped inside the crushed vehicle. “It was a terrifying sight,” one local resident shared. “The rickshaw was under the security car. Akshay didn’t wait for the police; he and his guards physically helped lift parts of the wreckage to pull the driver out.”
The actor reportedly stayed at the location until the Juhu Police and emergency responders arrived to take over the rescue operation.
The accident resulted in two primary injuries. The auto-rickshaw driver, identified as the brother of one Mohammed Sameer, is reportedly in “serious condition” at a nearby hospital. The passenger also sustained multiple injuries but is said to be stable.
The accident cast a shadow over what had been a celebratory week for the couple. Akshay and Twinkle were returning to their Juhu residence after a trip abroad to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
On January 17, the duo had shared lighthearted videos of their anniversary celebrations, including a paragliding adventure. Twinkle Khanna had jokingly captioned the post, “The best part of our marriage? We always encourage each other to fly. Sometimes literally!” Little did the couple know that their return to Mumbai would involve such a traumatic encounter.
The Juhu Police have moved swiftly to investigate the incident. Preliminary findings point toward “rash and negligent driving” by the Mercedes driver. A senior police official confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for endangering life and causing grievous hurt.
“We have secured the CCTV footage from the Silver Beach Café area to establish the exact speed of the Mercedes,” the official stated. “The driver of the luxury car is currently being questioned.”
As of Tuesday morning, Akshay Kumar has not issued a formal public statement regarding the accident. However, sources close to the actor confirmed that he is safe and has requested his team to check on the recovery of the injured auto-rickshaw driver.
Despite the scare, the actor is expected to resume his rigorous filming schedule for his upcoming 2026 projects, including Welcome to the Jungle and Hera Pheri 3. This incident marks a rare occasion where the actor’s security measures—often criticized for being intrusive—likely served as a buffer that protected him from a direct high-speed collision.
