Article 370 Critic Review

Article 370, directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, tackles the contentious issue of the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. The film follows Zooni Haksar (Yami Gautam), a young field agent entrusted with a covert mission by the Prime Minister’s Office (played by Priyamani) to dismantle the “billion-dollar conflict economy” fuelling unrest in the valley. Zooni executes the operations to kill the terrorist Burhan (Shivam Khajuria) in Kashmir while she was not having the permission for this operation from his Senior Khawar Ali (Raj Arjun). This creates unrest in the valley and also the suspension of Zooni for not following orders. A year later PMO appoints Zooni to lead the NIA in Srinagar. Story unfolds from here how the President rule was imposed in Valley and Article 370 revoked.

The film attempts a delicate balancing act, weaving a narrative that blends political intrigue, personal struggles, and emotional appeals to patriotism. While the intent to showcase the complexities of the situation and the human cost involved is commendable, the execution falters at times.

The film shines in its portrayal of the emotional toll the conflict takes on individuals. Yami Gautam delivers a nuanced performance as Zooni, effectively capturing the character’s internal conflict and unwavering determination. The supporting cast, particularly Priyamani, adds depth and gravitas to the narrative.

The film incorporates action sequences and suspenseful moments to keep the audience engaged. While the film attempts to present a balanced perspective, it leans towards a nationalistic narrative at times. This may resonate with certain audiences but could alienate others seeking a more nuanced exploration of the issue.

The film boasts impressive cinematography, capturing the breath-taking beauty of Kashmir alongside the harsh realities of its conflict. The music effectively complements the emotional tenor of the narrative.

Overall

Overall Article 370 is a well-intentioned film that tackles a sensitive topic. While it succeeds in sparking conversation and showcasing the human cost of conflict, its narrative choices and occasional heavy-handedness may leave some viewers wanting a more comprehensive and objective exploration of the issue.
