Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and his sister, Alvira Khan Agnihotri, have run into a fresh legal storm. A Chandigarh district court has officially issued formal summons to the actor, his sister, and directors of the associated licensee company in connection with a high-stakes, multi-crore cheating and fraud case.
The legal proceedings stem from a long-running dispute tied to a Being Human jewellery franchise in Manimajra. The court has ordered all accused parties to personally appear and file their formal responses during the upcoming hearing scheduled for October 5, 2026.
The legal battle originates from a complaint lodged by Chandigarh-based businessman Arun Gupta. According to court filings, Gupta alleged that he was induced into setting up an exclusive Being Human jewellery showroom in the NAC area of Manimajra based on grand promises of high business returns and robust promotional backup.
- The Investment: The complainant claimed he invested roughly ₹3 crores overall, sinking approximately ₹1 crore solely into setting up the elite showroom as per the brand’s specifications.
- Broken Promises: Gupta asserted that after the agreement was locked, the company failed to honour promised marketing support, leaving the showroom starved of business.
- Supply Chain Collapse: Matters worsened drastically when the primary corporate supply source and designated warehouse handling inventory reportedly shut down in February 2020. With fresh stock completely cut off, the business suffered massive financial paralysis, leading the investor to seek legal recourse.
The grievance initially surfaced in the public eye via police complaints and preliminary inquiries back in July 2021. After years of investigative reviews, the matter has officially crossed the threshold from police verification to formal judicial summons.
As the case advances in the district court, representatives and corporate entities connected to the brand have previously clarified their structural distance from the ground-level retail dispute.
- No Direct Operational Role: Legal representatives and corporate statements have maintained that Salman Khan had no direct or active operational role in negotiating or executing the business agreements signed with the Chandigarh licensee in 2018.
- The Brand Licensing Structure: According to corporate clarifications, the Salman Khan Foundation had officially licensed the “Being Human” brand name to Style and Content Jewellery Pvt Ltd (formerly Style Quotient) back in 2015.
- Corporate Accountability: The defense maintains that managing, marketing, and supplying the jewellery vertical was solely the independent commercial responsibility of the licensee firm rather than the personal mandate of the actor or his immediate family members.
Furthermore, initial friction arose during the launch phase when the complainant alleged that despite assurances that Salman Khan would personally inaugurate the showroom, the opening ceremony was instead graced by the actor’s brother-in-law, Aayush Sharma.
With the district court issuing strict directives for personal appearances, all eyes are now set on the autumn hearing. Legal teams for Salman Khan and Alvira Khan Agnihotri are expected to present comprehensive replies challenging the maintainability of the fraud charges against the family members.
As the October 5 deadline approaches, the high-profile case highlights the complex corporate liabilities and risks tied to celebrity brand endorsements and multi-tier licensing frameworks in the retail industry.
